Bill Newton Dunn MEP "A steady advance in support in the East Midlands"
The European Election results saw the Lib Dems increase their share of the vote in Northampton whilst both Labour and the Tories lost out to a strong challenge from the UK Independence Party who came second in the vote across the Borough.
The results for the main parties in Northampton Borough was:
Conservative 15,171 (26.6%)
UKIP 13,959 (24.52%)
Labour 10,671 (18.74%)
Lib Dems 8,667 (15.22%)
Lib Dem MEP Bill Newton Dunn was re-elected to represent the East Midlands.
Commenting on the result Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson for Northampton North Andrew Simpson said, "The results saw us increasing our vote both in Northampton and across the region whilst both Tories and Labour lost support to UKIP. Labour are now in deep trouble in the town as their share of the vote went down by over 10% from last time. Whilst the UKIP bubble will undoubtedly burst it is perhaps Labour who have most to worry about locally."
