Lib Dems in Campaign to save indoor skate facility

October 8, 2004 9:00 PM
Andrew Simpson, Damian Ince (Manager of Radlands) & Richard Church

Radlands provides an important facility for the town we need to do all we can to keep it

Over one hundred skaters packed The Guildhall in their bid to keep the Radlands indoor skate, inline and BMX centre in Kingsthorpe open. The Borough Council have backed the Lib Dem call to work with the skateboarders to find a way to keep the only indoor skateboarding centre in the town open.

'Young people need somewhere to go where they are safe and secure and where they can let off steam' said Andrew Simpson. 'Radlands provides an excellent facility, and without it there will be more skateboarders out doors on the pavements and in parks at night. Young people have spoken with a clear voice, and politicians have a duty to listen. We will be pressing the council to work with the young people to find funding to keep the Radlands facility open.'

All councillors backed a Lib Dem motion proposed by Cllr Brendan Glynane to commit the Council to working with the users of Radlands to find finance and support to keep an indoor facility in the town.
