Liberal Democrats were celebrating after gaining 5 County Council seats from Labour in Thursday's elections. The party took the wards of Kingsley, St David, Headlands, Boughton Green and Abington whilst holding Kingsthorpe with over 1,000 vote majority. This gives the Lib Dems more Councillors than any other party in the constituency. Delapre ward in Northampton South was also won by the party.
"This result comes on top of an excellent General Election performance and shows again how it is the Lib Dems challenging Labour in the constituency" said Andrew Simpson Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate.
Some close finishes saw Jane Hollis win in St David, Richard Church re-gain Kingsley, Brian Hoare win Abington, David Garlick - Headlands, John Yates in Boughton Green and Sally Beardsworth retain the Lib Dem stronghold of Kingsthorpe.
This is the largest ever Lib Dem Group on the County with the addition of Brendan Glynane who won the Delapre Division in the south.
