"Bus services are changing so often timetables are out of date as soon as they are issued"
Cllr Andrew Simpson has called on the Government to finally act to allow greater regulation of local bus services by Councils and local people. This follows the recent scrapping of the number 7 and number 50P bus routes by First Bus and cuts to other services.
"It seems barely a month goes by before we hear of another change to the town's bus services" said Andrew "The routes scrapped by Northampton First Bus cause severe hardship for people living in Eastfield, Thorplands and Southfields areas who rely on these services to get into the town centre and to Weston Favell. It is unacceptable we need action now to stabilise the bus services in the town".
Whilst Northampton First Bus announced cuts in the services, in the last few days Stagecoach has stepped in to take over an amended number 7 route serving Kingsley Park, Spinney Hill and the Lakeview estate to the town centre.
"It has to be welcomed that Stagecoach are taking over this service but that still leaves us with less services than back in the summer. It is time this Labour Government finally acted in the interests of bus users and brought back greater local regulation of services " continued Andrew.
