Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North Constituency, today attacked the continuing destruction of our Post Offices in Northampton by this Labour Government.
From the beginning of August you have no longer been able to buy your TV licence from your post office.
Licences will only be available only from Paypoint outlets in newsagents, petrol stations and supermarkets or online.
The numbers of people who buy their TV licence at the post office is around 5 million people, many pensioners who depend on the services provided by the post offices.
A savings card that can be 'topped up' at Paypoint outlets or over the phone also replaces TV licence stamps today.
Andrew Simpson said, "We have already seen a number of sub post offices close in Northampton and it is very sad that this Labour Government is continuing the last Tory Governments agenda of the destruction of our Post Offices which provide a very valuable service. Post Offices should be able to continue to provide this service and be allowed to provide more so protecting small communities who are desperate to safe guard what little is left of their village life. This decision to move yet another service away from the Post Office, will continue to see even more closures".
