Ming Campbell - "Given the lack of UK influence over coalition strategy, the deepening sectarian conflict, and the increasing antipathy of the Iraqi people to the coalition forces, the time has come for a controlled exit".
Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North constituency, has welcomed the proposals announced today by Ming Campbell MP, Leader of the Lib Dems, for a withdrawal of British troops from Iraq by October 2007.
"At last one party has had the guts to suggest this and I am prod that is the Liberal Democrats" commented Andrew. "Both the Labour and Conservative parties voted for the illegal war in Iraq in the first place - now all they seem to offer is a 'wringing their hands' in response to the crisis. The Lib Dems have put forward constructive proposals for a 'drawdown' of our forces in Iraq".
"While President Bush ignores his own Iraq Study Group's recommendations and instead commits more forces, Tony Blair seem paralysed to act. Experts meanwhile are saying that our forces there have become part of the problem and commit more will just exacerbate the situation"
