The next election gives voters in Northampton North the real chance to elect a local MP who will speak up for the town"

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North Andrew Simpson has welcomed the news that the Labour party has chosen to re-select sitting MP Sally Keeble to fight Northampton North at the next General Election.

"I look forward to challenging Sally Keeble at the next election. She has been one of the most loyal Blairite MP's in Westminster and I welcome the chance to question her record of supporting the War in Iraq, the imposition of Student Tuition Fees and for the government imposed growth on Northampton which is imposing 3,500 homes on Dallington Heath to name but three issues ." said Andrew

Andrew was the Lib Dem Candidate for Northampton North at the last General Election and increased the Lib Dem vote by just under 3,000 whilst Sally Keeble's vote dropped by 3,602. The Conservative vote share remained stagnant. Andrew was re-selected as the Lib Dem candidate in May 2006 and has been a local Northampton Borough Councillor since 1995.

"Increasingly Sally Keeble will try and present the next election as a contest between herself and the Conservatives because she knows that the Lib Dems are actually the biggest threat to her retaining her seat. As the Lib Dem candidate last time I took 3,000 votes from Labour to cut her majority whilst the Conservative vote stood still. If the same was repeated at the next election I would win." Continued Andrew

"May's local elections saw the Lib Dems take 54% of the vote share in the new Northampton North constituency - the next election gives voters in Northampton North the real chance to elect a local MP who will speak up for the town"
