Consultation welcomed over Racecourse Masterplan

June 2, 2008 10:00 PM

The PavilionAndrew Simpson has welcomed the Borough Council's decision to accept the Racecourse Masterplan put together by the Friends of Northampton Racecourse as the basis for consultation over future plans for the park.

Speaking at the meeting of the Council's Cabinet Andrew Simpson said " I welcome this plan as providing a framework for protecting and improving the Racecourse and above all providing some ambitious ideas for its future".

"It must be stressed that the Council has not decided anything, and in fact at present there are no funds available for some of the 20 projects listed in the plan, but what we now have is an excellent set of proposals that people in the town can be fully consulted on".

"There has been alot of misinformation about what is proposed by the the Masterplan, now people will be able to have their say. Some aspects are controversial, some make total sense - I don't agree with them all - such as moving the tram shelter - but at least we now have something to develop and help plan for the parks future".

The Council's Cabinet received the Racecourse Masterplan and agreed start wider consultation on the plan and consider options for delivering agreed proposals.

"I must congratulate Friends of the Racecourse on achieving something the Council has been unable to do which is providing the town with a plan for the park".
