Call for MP to back Council's Cash for Housing Bid

Northampton Council Houses Andrew Simpson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesperson for Northampton North, has called on Michael Ellis MP to back the Council's bid for £100 million of PFI funding for housing estates in Thorplands and Eastfield. This follows speculation that the scheme could fall foul of the Coalition Government's funding cuts.

"During the General Election campaign Michael made a particular issue of the housing scheme planned for Eastfield estate and now he is the MP the town needs his support in securing vital funds to improve council housing" said Andrew.

"The Lib Dem run authority has been taking steps to put right years of underinvestment in our local council housing and has already invested £45 million of its own money. The proposed £100 million PFI scheme is crucial to making possible further improvements".

"The housing cash for Thorplands and Eastfield is the sort of scheme that needs both the local Council and MP working together for the good of the town and I hope this will now happened".

"If Michael doesn't support the plan then he needs to help the council find alternative funds to make the improvements we need."

Andrew Simpson has written to Michael Ellis urging him to support the Council's bid.
