Andrew Simpson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North constituency, has welcomed the Coalition Governments announcement that it is scrapping the Labour Governments new housing targets for Northampton.
"This was a key issue in the run up to the election" said Andrew "The Labour Government had imposed over 40,000 new houses on Northampton as part of the Regional Spatial Strategy which was far in excess of the needs of our town."
Andrew Simpson ran a campaign against Labour's imposed growth plans and took a petition to Downing Street from local residents opposed to the moves.
"Not only were the plans in excess of what we needed as a town there was actually no way they could be delivered without massive extra investment in the infrastructure of Northampton. Something the Labour Government failed to provide for".
"The decision over local housing numbers and location should rightly be the responsibility of the local elected council not a faceless Government department. I am delighted that one of the Coalition Governments first acts is to scrap this imposed growth and give power back to Northampton residents to decide."
