Andrew Simpson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesperson for Northampton North constituency, has expressed his disappointment in news from the Government that a bid for £100 million of funds for Thorplands and Eastfield estates will not be proceeding.
"This was a once in a generation chance to fund major regeneration of these two estates and it is a great disappointment that the Government has withdrawn funding for future schemes." said Andrew.
"The PFI scheme had been the only deal on the table from the last Labour Government and I hope the Coalition Government will come up with alternative proposals that will enable to Council to make the badly needed investment for these two areas".
The Home and Communities Agency announced that it will not be allocating funding to 13 schemes across the country which had not yet submitted outline business cases. Unfortunately Northampton Borough Council's scheme was one of these.
