Lib Dems are challenging Labour in Northampton North

Charles Kennedy MP the Liberal Democrat Leader launched the party's campaign in the East Midlands by highlighting the growing success of the party in the region, from gains in Chesterfield and Leicester to becoming the main challengers in Harborough, Derby and Northampton.

Charles Kennedy said "More and more people are looking to the Liberal Democrats to provide a real alternative to Labour and the Conservatives.

"And that's exactly what we're determined to do in this campaign.

"The Liberal Democrats will fight this campaign based on positive solutions to the real problems people face everyday.

"We will address people's hopes, not play to their fears."

Andrew Simpson, Lib Dem candidate for Northampton North, who attended the launch, said

"The Lib Dems have proved in the East Midlands that they can beat Labour in places such as Chesterfield and Leicester South which makes us optimistic for our chances in Northampton North. Charles has recognized the success in the region and the opportunity we have by coming here today to launch our challenge".
