Visit to Care Home highlights free personal care commitment9.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 28th Apr 2005
Liberal Democrat Northampton North candidate Andrew Simpson and County Council candidates Sally Beardsworth and Trini Crake today visited Turn Furlong a new residential care home for the elderly in Northampton North. The new care home provides a variety of facilities for the elderly including short stay accommodation to cater for people coming out of hospital before going back to their home, to respite care as well as a day centre. "Turn Furlong provides a lead in the type of facility we should be developing in the town" said Andrew "It brings together all the medical and caring agencies to provide an integrated facility for care for the elderly in a modern and purpose built environment". The Liberal Democrats are committed to providing free personal care for the elderly to enable care to be provided at a residents home as much as possible, with facilities like Turn Furlong available when this is not possible. "Free personal care for the elderly will mean that no-one will have to use up their life savings, sell their home, or be a burden on their families to pay for help with washing, feeding and dressing if they contract a long-term illness such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's. " said Andrew
