Lib Dems win in Northampton North

10.13.22pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 5th May 2007

Andrew Simpson is set to beat Sally Keeble at the next General Election if the Lib Dem landslide in Northampton is repeated at the next General Election.

The share of the vote across Northampton North constituency saw Sally Keeble's New Labour candidates fall to a humiliating third place with less than 20% of the vote.

The share of vote in the ten wards making up the new Northampton North constituency was as follows:

Lib Dem - 54.1%

Con - 21.6%

Lab - 19.5%

Other -4.8%

The Conservatives were wiped out in Northampton North, losing their last remaining strongholds of Parklands and Eastfield. They now have no Borough Councillors in the constituency. Labour only managed to cling on in Lumbertubs ward by just 148 votes, with the Lib Dems in second place.

'As Tony Blair prepares to quit as Prime Minister voters in Northampton have given notice to quit to New Labour's MP here' said Andrew Simpson.

'Northampton has rejected New Labour from the Council and equally spurned David Cameron's Conservatives. Sally Keeble's days as an MP are numbered.'
