Conservative Councillor welcomed to Lib Dems

10.00.00am GMT Wed 17th Dec 2008

Andrew Simpson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Northampton North, has welcomed the decision by Cllr Maureen Hill, the Conservative County Councillor for Weston Ward, to join the Liberal Democrats.

"Maureen has made a principled stand against the Conservative controlled County Council's decision to slash £1.3 million from Family Support funding in their pre-election budget. Typically hitting those who most need our help. " said Andrew

The decisions of the local Conservative party in charge at Northamptonshire County Council are yet again shown to be totally disconnected from the image of 'cuddly' David Cameron the Conservatives portray nationally."

"I have know Maureen for a number of years and welcome her to the Liberal Democrats. I look forward to working with her for the future of our town."
