Lib Dem MP highlights Health Care Gap on Northampton visit10.00.00pm GMT Thu 19th Mar 2009
Norman Lamb MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, paid a visit to Northampton and highlighted the gaps between social care and health provision that affects many people when leaving hospital or looking for help with care. Mr Lamb joined Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Simpson on a visit to Northamptonshire Carers and Northamptonshire Age Concern to hear at first hand how voluntary organisations were working with the local NHS to provide support for people who need it. "Northamptonshire appears to have some good voluntary organisations that are doing an excellent job" said Norman "But more needs to be done to integrate social care and health organisations so that people have a 'joined up' care package when they need it". Following a health seminar meeting at The Guildhall in Northampton. Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North, Andrew Simpson, said "Clearly there is some great work being done here in Northampton but the uncertainty caused by the Conservative run County Council's review of day care provision is causing problems for voluntary organisations who want to plan ahead for their future. This needs to be resolved quickly".
