Petition and report handed in for Post Offices Campaign
Andrew Simpson, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North, has today handed into the Post Office Ltd a petition of 800 signatures and a covering report in an attempt to stop the proposed closure of 4 Post Offices in Northampton North.
"I hope the Post Office will listen to local people and change their mind on these closures" said Andrew "But I fear that the Government has set a policy of closing 2,500 nationally and that means some will close regardless of the strength of the case to keep them open".
Liberal Democrat Councillors and campaigners have been collecting signatures and comments from people across the town opposed to the closure since they were first announced in November. Andrew has also been collecting signatures online via his website.
"The short timescale the Post Office provided for this consultation has made it challenging to get the campaign across to people - also with Christmas falling in between many residents had other things on their mind. However I have been struck by the strength of feeling from all parts of our town about this issue, and over 800 signatures has been collected. In know more could have been collected if we'd had more time"
"In addition to the petitions submitted to the Post Office I have compiled an overview report on the 4 Post Offices affected in Northampton North. It is clear that the Branch Access Reports put together by the Post Office bore little reality to the local knowledge we have as residents in the town. I have stressed this within the report".
