March 7, 2010 9:00 AM

Kingsthorpe Focus 200th celebration - Richard Church, Sally Beardsworth, Andrew Simpson and Tony RounthwaiteLiberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Northampton North Constituency, Andrew Simpson was joined by current and former Lib Dem Councillors for Kingsthorpe at an event to celebrate the 200th edition of Focus community newsletters for the area.

"It is not just the 200th edition of Focus for Kingsthorpe but is actually over 30 years since the Liberal party and now Lib Dems started our community newsletters in the area" said Andrew. "It must be one of the longest and most consistently produced community newsletter from any political party not just in Northampton but across the country".

Focus community newsletters are produced across Northampton by the Lib Dems and are about local issues in the area covered. Newsletters in Kingsthorpe started in the late 1970's when Liberal activist and former Borough and County Councillor Tony Rounthwaite started community politics in Northampton.

"I am delighted to be present at this celebration of our 200th Kingsthorpe Focus" said Tony. "The tradition of reporting back to people what is happening in their area, giving them a chance to provide feedback and getting things done for the community has gone from strength to strength since it first appeared in 1979".

Kingsthorpe Focus not only celebrates its 200th edition but the fact that over the years around 700,000 copies would have been delivered by volunteers in the area.

"We couldn't do it without the support and dedication of all the volunteers who have helped us over the years" said Cllr Sally Beardsworth "They have helped us in raising issues and the funds to pay for the leaflets as well as getting them delivered when produced every few months".
