Liberal Democrats in Daventry constituency have chosen Andrew Simpson as their candidate for the snap General Election on 8th June. Andrew head and shoulders

Andrew is an experienced local and parliamentary campaigner having stood previously for the party in the General Elections of 2001, 2005 and 2010. In 2010 he stood in Northampton North and came within 5% of taking the seat from the Conservatives.

He is also former Northampton Borough Councillor where he served on the Council for 16 years during which time he was Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee as well as Deputy Opposition Leader.

Andrew is the current Chair of Daventry Liberal Democrats and lives in the constituency in Kilsby.

"I am delighted to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for Daventry constituency," said Andrew. "Following our success in Thursday's local elections my campaign is already off to a flying start and I have been meeting people from across the area and talking to them about their concerns.

"My message to the voters of Daventry is clear: if you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, vote Liberal Democrat. If you want a strong opposition to the Conservatives, vote Liberal Democrats.

"The current Conservative MP for Daventry is a hard line Brexiteer and backed Andrea Leadsom above Theresa May for Prime Minister. Many people who voted to leave the EU are now concerned about the hard line being taken by Theresa May and the Conservatives. We need a pragmatic approach to the Brexit negotiations, one that keeps Britain in the single market and keeps us working together with our European partners. Once we have completed the negotiations and we know what Brexit looks like then I will be campaigning for the people of Daventry to have a final say on the deal".

"The Liberal Democrats came a clear second in the constituency in 2010 and following Thursday's local election results have taken a major step in regaining the position as the Conservatives main challengers"

"Labour are a failure and a vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a stronger opposition to Theresa May's Hard Brexit Conservative Government. A vote for the Liberal Democrats is also the only way the people of Daventry can demand a vote on the final Brexit package. I am trusting the people, not the politicians, with that decision. In return, I am asking for their trust in me as a strong voice for our area in Parliament in opposition to the Hard Brexit Tory Government and to Change Britain's Future."
